The Return

November 23, 2001

It is the 23rd November and this Australian adventure ends...............Melbourne Airport Emirates flight EK 069 20.45 leaves on time and rises in the sky, destination Rome via Dubai., I'm pretty sad because I felt very much at home in Melbourne and I've made some real friends who came to the airport to see me off.!!

The flight was very long and the hours seemed endless, the only drawback to this trip was the 24/25 hour flight but I would do it again in a flash to be able to go on another unforgettable experience like this one.!!!

A heartfelt thanks to all.
Fabrizio.

Back in Australia in 2002.

Mornington Peninsula

February 2002

On February 20, 2002, I got on the plane again and now I'm back in Australia it's now in my blood. I'm back in Melbourne with my friends I met during my first trip in 2001. This time I travelled with the national Australian airline Qantas and I must say that I had a very pleasant flight with great service on board and a direct flight with only one stop over of about an hour in Bangkok. Arrived in Melbourne on 22 early morning and a beautiful end of summer day.  The temperature is wonderful neither too hot nor too cold.

March 2002

I visited many shopping centeres, very big and great for people who love to go on shopping sprees !! Recently I went to visit  Mornington Peninsula which is about an hour and a half drive from Melbourne where many residents of Melbourne have second homes. The beach extends all the way up Mornington Peninsula is a succession of beaches up to Portsea.. The beaches that overlook the bay along the northern side of the peninsula (Front beaches) have calm waters while those of the southern slope toward the ocean (Back beaches) have surf.  I visited three locations one being Rosebud a seaside town where there are many italian residents who have second homes here.. The picture perfect town of Sorrento with beautiful beaches and full of life, and finally the end of the Peninsula Porsea exclusive place where the wealthy of Melbourne have their seaside villas. On the outskirts of Sorrento, at Sullivan Bay there is the point where the first settlers of the state of Victoria arrived in 1803

Mt. Dandenongs

September 2002

Mount Dandenong is located just on the outskirts of Melbourne. It 'a great place for  day trips, especially in the summer to get away from the soaring heat thanks to it's altitude of 633 meters.  There are many varieties' of plants including some beautiful giant ferns, and there are also some natural parks to visit with internal paths for beautiful walks. There are many bars and restaurants, some very famous, with tea rooms and other attractions. One of the main attractions of the place is "Puffing Billy" a steam train that was  once, at the beginning of the twentieth century, used to transport agricultural commodities. Today used to transport tourists around the mountains and the journey is about 13 km and takes  about 2.5 hours with stopovers, etc. To get to  Puffing Billy from the city 'you have to go to the suburb of Belgreve. There is a variety of accomodation in  Mount Dandenong with motels, guesthouse and in particular bed and breakfast accomodation.  It is very pleasant here and a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

2003  Melbourne

July 2003

Although a bit late I will write about the last thing thing that happened. At the beginning of 2003, I made another trip to Melbourne where now I acutally live.. During these months I visited other places in Melbourne and in all honesty I don't have much spare time to dedicate to this diary. I took some new pictures of Port Melbourne where the ships for Tasmania leave which was once the port where many immigrants from Europe, including Italy, came and settled and I also visited St Kilda a trendy cafe and restaruant suburb of Melbourne.

Last October the annual Italian Festival in Lygon Street took place a very picturesque festa and I took a few photos.. An hour's drive from Melbourne I visited the area of Torquay, a lively beachside resort considered to be one of the best in the Australian Surfing Industry. In fact there are many specialty stores that cater for both beginner and experts.
